Accu-Chek Aviva

Accu-Chek AvivaAccu-Chek recently sent us one of their Aviva blood glucose monitors for review. We gave a few diabetics a crack at this monitor and are giving our impressions of it.

Accu-Chek boasts that the Aviva is the most reliable and accurate monitor on the market. According to their marketing material it performs 150 checks to ensure a correct and reliable glucose reading. For diabetics who are particular about receiving very accurate readings this monitor seems to have accuracy covered well. Testing solution also comes standard with the monitor to ensure your monitor is working properly.

The size of the Aviva monitor is comparable to a deck of cards. It is colored blue with a silver panel.

The Aviva test strips is based on comfort curve technology. The blood samples however are sucked from the front of the strip and not the side. We felt really comfortable with the size and design of the test strips for the Aviva. It was not difficult to handle at all. And a very small sample of .6 microliters of blood is all that is needed for a test. Tests take 5 seconds to process a reading. The Aviva also uses a chip to program the monitor for each batch of strips you purchase. This is included with each vile of test strips you buy. A standard feature for Accu-Chek monitors.

The memory on the Accu-Chek Aviva monitor holds up to 500 readings. If you test on average 4 times a day that’s a memory of 125 days.

One feature we were really impressed with was the lancet device. The Accu-Chek Multiclix lancet device is awesome. It uses a lancet drum that has 12 lancets within it. So you only need to change the drum after your 12th test. This eliminates the need of having to change lancets after every test. The Multiclix has a see through clear cap which allows you to use different areas like the forearm or leg.

The only gripe we have with this lancet device is that it is super sensitive. If you have tough skin it is going to be difficult for you to get a blood sample.

Overall we were pleased with the Accu-Chek Aviva monitor. It does not have any revolutionary features however it is a good Accu-Chek monitor that has been built upon by past glucose monitor generations.
